“ We stumbled upon this place and my partner got a good feeling about it. Turns out he was absolutely right. This place offers both delicious food & wine, combined with excellent service. You can tell these people take pride in their work and service, which absolutely takes the experience to the next level. We went for lunch one day, and were so satisfied that we just had to come back for dinner the next day. If you are in Funchal make sure to go for food here! ”

“ We arrived around 6pm on a Thursday, and I’m glad we did because this cozy restaurant doesn’t have many tables and it fills up quickly. We chose a table in the courtyard and it was magical. We had attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff who could easily make recommendations for food and wine. We ordered the squid for a starter to share and I ordered the foie gras steak. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. Bathrooms are on the same level as the courtyard with no steps. The stone courtyard (between the restaurant and bathroom) may be a bit bumpy in a wheelchair. We will definitely make a point to stop by again when we are in Madeira. ”

“ Visited 1811 a few nights ago. There aren't many tourists in Funchal currently so the restaurant was quiet which I was initially daunted by, but so glad that we decided to dine there. The manager, Nelio and staff member, Silva, were so very kind and gave us good advice and information about the food and wine within the wider context of Madeira. We were lucky to get to try the Atlantis brand owned by Blandy's, which I enjoyed with my tasty meal. We went a bit rogue and started with the cheese board, which I think was an excellent choice. Such delicious cheese with a range of accompaniments. Beautiful setting, great service and good food and wine - what more can I say! ”

“ This was a wonderful spot , which was discovered when the wine club was visiting the Blandy wine Cellars. The food was lovely , each course paired with a different wine . I liked all the combinations except their choice of red wine, somehow the red wasnt upto the mark of matching the excellent main dish, the red was too light for the main dish and too young didnt do justice . Every other wine choice was great. I would still give 5 stars because of excellent food and service . ”

“ Wonderful meal in every way. Service was extremely professional and prompt, food was delicious, and it’s a very quiet, calm atmosphere. They were accommodating to a celiac diet including gluten free bread and were knowledgeable of what was safe or unsafe. We would come back again! ”

“ A hidden gem in Funchal. We found this gem after wandering aimlessly in Funchal and when hunger found us I searched google maps for nearby places to eat and 1811 caught my interest, luckily. Food was delicious, so good we had to come back the next day for dinner, whereupon we also tasted great wine and lovely dessert. The staff was very friendly and the experience overall pretty excellent! A favorite. Highly recommend this place! ”
